It may seem a long time since 1700 runners ran through the lanes of Barns Green and the surrounding area in the 28th running of the Barns Green Half Marathon.
Since the event we have had a chance to reflect on the race and start planning for 2011. We have also had a chance to distribute the £15,000 raised centrally from the 2010 Barns Green Half Marathon and I am pleased to report that most groups have now received donations. Amounts ranging from £50 up to £500 have been made to 18 different sports clubs, social and youth organisations in and around the village and this year larger donations were earmarked for St Nicholas Church, TheVillage Hall and the Monday Club.
Without the invaluable help of over 100 volunteers from people in and around the village the event could not take place and we are delighted to be able to reward the clubs and organisations that these people represent.
The event also had an official charity which last year was Bliss, the premature baby charity. Bliss made collections in the car parks and along with Grace, the gynaecological cancer charity, operating in the local area, which also had a stand on the Green and the hundreds of individual runners raising money for their own chosen charities the race generated an additional sum for charity estimated to be around £30,000.
